EARLY DEVELOPMENT TECHNIQUE Jean Ledloff

The emotional, physical and intellectual development of the child at each stage of growing up depends on the adults around him, so it is very important to seriously approach the methods of education. For example, the basis of education can take the natural method of early development of Jean Ledloff, which is described in her book “How to raise a child happy.”

Early Development Technique Jean Ledloff

For each family, the birth of a child is a joyful and long-awaited event. Parents carefully prepare for it, and then fully devote themselves to the baby, trying to provide him with everything necessary.

According to many experts, the first seven years of a person’s life are the most favorable for the development of his abilities and personal qualities that will last a lifetime. In search of the right approach to the upbringing of the main family member, parents learn a lot of early development techniques, among which Jean Ledloff’s technique can be distinguished.

Note that under the promising title “How to Raise a Child Happy” hides slightly shocking principles of upbringing, which may not always be applied in the current society, but may lead to useful thoughts.

LIFE BY Jean LEDLOFF: A JOURNEY THAT OPENED THE WORLD
American writer and psychotherapist Jean Ledloff was born in New York in 1926. In her young years, she studied at a seminary for young girls, then she entered Cornell University, which she left for traveling around Europe. Ledloff was fond of studying Spanish, Italian, French, which gave her the opportunity to work as a translator. During her wanderings in European countries, she also worked as a model.

Under the influence of impulse, the young writer went on an expedition in search of diamonds to Venezuela in the early 1950s. Although she was not able to capitalize on this, she was able to get acquainted with the culture of local Aboriginal people and study the features of raising children in the Indian tribes.

After the first expedition, she visited the Venezuelan jungle 4 more times. One of her trips lasted 2.5 years. During the period that she lived with the Yekuan tribe, Ledloff practiced psychotherapy and painted. Upon returning home, the writer reflected her thoughts on raising children in a book published in 1975. In it, she criticized the methods used by parents in the USA and Europe, formulating the correct, in her opinion, principles of child development, based on the approaches of South American Indians.

Jean Ledloff died in her houseboat in California, where she lived with her cat, in 2011. Although the writer was very interested in raising children and the relationship between parents and the child, she still did not recognize the joys of motherhood.

FEATURES OF THE TECHNIQUE OF Jean LEDLOFF
The book “How to Raise a Child Happy” has received many responses, both positive and negative. Despite the fact that more than 40 years have passed since its writing, it still causes heated discussions. The author laid the foundation for the work of today’s popular principles of natural education, but her proposals went far beyond the usual.

According to the writer, all people are born with a set of certain expectations that are passed down through the generation. The repetition of sequences of behavior is very important, therefore, each child subconsciously searches for ways to acquire the necessary experience, and the inability to fulfill this need makes him feel deprived. That is, the main task of parents is to appeal to the child at the level of his instincts, ensuring constant maternal warmth, touch and affection.

The educational traditions of the tribe in which she lived greatly impressed her. She talked about the fact that the children of the tribe did not act up, did not cry and gladly helped adults. Comparing the methods of educating civilized countries with the traditions of the Latin American tribes, Ledloff claimed that modern parents completely forgot about the basic instincts laid down by nature, and some of the practices used program a person for an unhappy life.

In her opinion, children who were at least briefly weaned from their mother before learning to crawl begin to experience a lack of parental warmth with age. This negatively affects the psyche and health, and can also lead to the emergence of addictions. Staying in constant bodily contact with the mother at this age forms in children a sense of security and tranquility.

PRINCIPLES OF EDUCATION ACCORDING TO THE TECHNIQUE OF Jean LEDLOFF
The basic principles of education according to the Ledloff technique are:

Lack of competition. The Ekuan tribe lacks a competitive spirit, as this adversely affects their emotional health. Parents do not cite other children as an example and do not try to make their baby better than someone else.
Perception of children as adults. From an early age, it is necessary to develop the individuality of the child, to contribute to his full development, guided by natural abilities.
