EARLY CHILD DEVELOPMENT: TO BE OR NOT TO BE, THERE IS THE QUESTION
Before plunging headlong into the early development of the baby, you should understand in more detail whether it is necessary to blindly follow all the recommendations of the authors of the technique without exception and what to look for when choosing an author’s technique.
The early development of children: to be or not to be, that is the question
A lot has been said and written about the early development of children. Teachers, psychologists and parents are actively discussing the advantages and disadvantages of a variety of copyrighted methods that help to grow healthy, successful and happy children (at least, the authors of the methods assure). At the same time, parent forums are full of discussions about how to instill a child with a love of learning and grow out of him a real prodigy, who knows absolutely all the sciences.
However, in recent years, specialists have begun to show some concern regarding the fanatical desire of some young parents to “load” their children with developmental activities to the maximum. They note that most parents begin to choose the appropriate technique for them before the baby is born. But when choosing, they are most often guided solely by their ambitions and the recommendations of others, forgetting about the needs of the protagonist of this program – a child.
INDIVIDUAL FEATURES OF CHILDREN
Despite the existing detailed descriptions of what a child should be able to do at each stage of development, these requirements are very approximate. They describe the skills and knowledge of an ordinary average baby to form the ideas of parents about what is considered the norm and what should be expected at a certain age. It also allows you to identify developmental disabilities and respond to them in a timely manner. However, if they say that the child should take the first steps of 9-10 months, this does not mean at all that all children will begin to walk at this age.
Each child has individual characteristics, so parents should not panic if their baby does not know all the same as his peers. Discussing the achievements of children with other people is not harmful, but you need to understand the existence of possible differences in their development. For example, one child can run well, while the other only learns to walk, but then speaks better than the first. This is normal.
From this point of view, one must also apply to the author’s methods of early development. Most of them are based on the authors’ observations of their children. They do not imply an individual approach, but only contain useful materials on the development of the average child, which can be used depending on his needs.
DEVELOPMENT VS. EDUCATION: WHAT DIFFERENCE?
The comprehensive development of children involves the formation of their desire for knowledge of the world and has nothing to do with learning. It is this factor that is fundamental in the issue of education. When a child shows interest in the world around him, he better perceives and remembers information.
Almost every methodology for early development includes materials for children to master various skills and abilities, that is, training. Moreover, classes are divided into blocks that correspond to a certain age. Naturally, there is nothing wrong with offering the baby counting sticks or cubes with letters, showing him cards with animals, flowers and other things. But, if he does not show interest in this, there is no need to insist, forcing him to study through “I do not want to”. This will not only not be useful, but will also lead to psychological trauma, which will kill all the desire for learning for many years.
The desire to acquire new knowledge arises in children at different ages. In addition, like adults, they tend to be more interested in some activities than in others. So, one child may be fond of drawing, while the other does not release books from his hands.
Since the methods of early development do not allow the possibility of developing in only one direction, their use is not always appropriate. You should also not be afraid that the reluctance of the child to perform an assignment that he does not like will testify to his developmental delay. Over time, he himself will begin to show interest in the necessary type of activity. This may happen later than other children, but it will be his personal choice. The main source of development for preschool children is the game, and it should be fun.
HOW TO DEVELOP A CHILD?
There is nothing wrong with early development techniques if you understand how to apply them correctly. Parents who apply the methods taking into account the interests and characteristics of their child achieve much more success than those who adhere to the materials in the books exactly. In defense of early development, it should also be said that any help to the child in cognition will be useful to him, but you do not need to concentrate on one lesson.
Children are more willing to learn from case studies. They imitate adults, are interested in the objects surrounding them. In order for the child to develop normally, parents must take an active part in this.
