EXPERTS DECIDED ON KEY PROBLEMS OF PRESCHOOL EDUCATION

And strict fire and hygiene standards turn preschools into sterile, but impersonal rooms. Instead of games, educational programs make the main emphasis on preparing children for schools.

Experts have identified key issues in preschool education

The current efforts of the Russian government do not yet allow making preschool education accessible to all residents of the country, which leads to overcrowded groups with which educators are unable to cope. And strict fire and hygiene standards turn preschools into sterile, but impersonal rooms. Instead of games, educational programs make the main emphasis on preparing children for schools.

Such is the modern system of preschool education in Russia, according to a memorandum prepared by RANEPA experts on the current state of affairs in the system of preschool education.

According to the researchers, at the initial stage of a child’s life, one cannot ignore the specifics of his development, since this poses serious problems in his future life, including schooling. And it is precisely this “foundation”, according to the RANEPA experts, that today causes serious concern.

The main problem is the lack of places in kindergartens, as a result of the “baby boom” of the late 2000s and the reduction in the number of kindergartens until recently, it turned out that not everyone will have the opportunity to send a child to a preschool. According to state statistics, the number of preschool educational institutions since 2008 decreased from 45.6 thousand to 44.3 thousand only in 2013, while the number of pupils increased by 800 thousand.

And the desire of many local authorities to solve the mentioned problem by increasing the number of children in groups leads to the fact that one teacher has to monitor a large number of children, up to 50 people.

No less questions arise for the teaching staff themselves. From them the realities of modern education require qualities such as variability and diversity. Such academic freedom presupposes that the teacher has a number of competencies and skills necessary for organizing the educational process in conditions of variability. Meanwhile, in kindergartens, as noted in the memorandum, the natives of the old model of education or educators who do not have the necessary skills base at all continue to work. Also, the salary level is the lowest in education, which does not correspond to the influx of qualified personnel into the DOW.

The situation is far from being the best even in the capital of the state, where the authorities report to the president that the needs for kindergartens are fully satisfied. In fact, in Moscow they take children from 2.5 years old, which forces moms to postpone their exit to work. There are also problems with staff qualifications and salaries, despite the decrees of the head of state.
